This story is a little different because it is about following your dreams and unfortunately not everyone gets to do that...
You see, in my early 20s, I decided to pursue my dream. So I enrolled in the best training program I could find and jumped on a plane to Whistler Resort in Canada where I got to work with and be trained by some of the best ski coaches on the planet.
Because my dream back then was to become a successful ski coach so I could help my clients get what they want. And it didn't take long, and pretty soon I was up and running with regular clients.
Now here’s the exciting part... |

I soon realised there was a second amazing opportunity in front of me...
Because my clients were very successful and I was spending quality time with them while riding chairlifts, at lunch and at dinner. This meant I was being introduced to a whole new network of very successful people. So I would ask each and every one of my highly successful clients. How did you become so successful?
And here is another cool part...
My clients would not only tell me how they did it, they would also point me in the right direction by recommending their favourite books, courses and programs for personal and professional development.
The next step for me came when I began coaching in Vail in Colorado because Vail is a mecca for successful people. At Vail I literally found myself surrounded by CEO's of Fortune 500 Businesses, Academy Award Winning Hollywood Producers, Billionaires, Business People and Top Athletes on a daily basis. I would literally have to pinch myself at the end of some of the days and weeks and at the stories and experiences they shared with me.
I mean, imagine being able to ask a Hollywood Producer... So how do you ask a studio for $40 million dollars to make the movie? (Remember this was a while ago now). And they would tell you how they did it step by step. It was truly amazing.
The next step was moving from employee to business owner after being taught the steps on how to raise capital I was able to open a specialty ski coaching program business in Australia and Canada. The learning curve was a steep one. You simply don’t know what you don’t know until you need it! Thankfully I had plenty of world class business mentors to help me along the way.
In running my own business and being highly accountable to investors for every dollar I spent, the single greatest business lesson I learned very quickly for small business was that if I was to invest a $1 on sales and marketing it had to directly return more than a $1 back - and preferably deliver a $5 to $10 return!
A lesson that was lost or I never received in my three years of university study gaining my business degree in marketing. Fortunately one of my ski clients is a true master at teaching business owners exactly how to do this so I trained with him and he was happy to teach me his secrets of effective low cost sales and marketing strategies. Today, having left ski coaching for good, I now use all of my experience having coached and been coached by some of the most successful people on the planet by helping people get what they want out of life.
